My Opinion
The Rock has a reputation in the area as attracting customers who have been made to be unwelcome in other pubs and seems to have been in steady decline for some years. The drinks there are very cheap but the range is not extensive, the food there is also cheap and has been, at different times, quite good but I think it is a case of freezer-fryer-plate now.
However if you want a quick pint and cheap food before venturing into the depths of Porthcawl town then feel free, I won't be there though.

MY FAMILY COME FROM SWANSEA AND WE GO TO THE ROCK ONCE A WEEK AND HAVE A LOVELY MEAL THERE. THEY ARE FRIENDLY AND SERVE A VERY REASONABLE PRICED MEAL AND GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY. MAYBE PEOPLE SHOULD GO THERE AND TRY IT BEFORE THEY MAKE JUDGEMENT. THE STAFF ARE VERY NICE AS WELL, I GOT THERE LATE BUT THEY STILL SERVED MY FAMILY AND I WITH FOOD. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND THANKS

I have just moved to Porthcawl and enjoy going to the Rock Inn for my lunch. The food is quality, affordable and the service is very quick and friendly. The drinks are also cheap and they serve Brains Dark which is a very nice beer.

The Rock has recently been redecorated and is a credit to Steve the landlord. He runs a very tight ship and being a former boxer, keeps a firm control on the place. Some of the regulars look a little scary, but they were all very friendly when I called in there. I didn't have time to try the food, but it looked very nice.
