The Seagull

The Seagull is a relatively modern built pub, built to serve a housing estate in the rest bay area of Porthcawl, even so it is in a pleasant spot and is well maintained with a nice appearance and a very large car-park out the back. There are two entrances one from the side and the main entrance at the front where there are a number of benches looking over a common area with shops and plenty of green space for children to play in. Inside there is one room separated into 3 sections, the restaurant, a center section and the TV, pool and darts section. It doesn't offer a great deal of privacy but there is plenty of space.

They sell a couple of tidy beers, and then the usual mix of wines, lagers, stout and alcopops.
Generally pleasant with a mix of all ranges of people, can get lively in the evenings and quite busy on summer day. Tends to be families having meals in the restaurant, from grandmother to toddlers and then younger people in the bar.

My Opinion

I recently had a meal and we had to wait far longer than is acceptable and noticed that several people who had ordered after us being served. When I told the serving staff if I didn't have my food within five minutes I wanted my money back, both for the food and interim drinks, (I had already pointed out we were getting bored of waiting) they were apologetic and professional in dealing with me and then blamed the chef, who is reckoned to be a bit awkward. The portions we did then receive were excellent. The pub itself is far to prefab for my liking with no real privacy, they also seem to give priority to different customers, who seem to think this is acceptable and do not defer to people who have been waiting longer. Nice enough apart from the points mentioned, but better for outside on a summers day.

I visited recently with some mates for the pub games evening - we had loads of fun.. the food smelt great and service was good and friendly. Like the layout of the pub.. We went back the next day for a pub lunch, I was not disappointed. Looking forward to my next games evening at the pub with my mates.

My food was always on time, nice too. Good pool table and SKY TV. A bit Clicky (as is every local pub, in fairness). Lovely pint of Fosters and Mike and Rachel are both friendly. Rachel gets a bit upset when you beat her high score on the 1942 arcade machine ......bogeys at four o'clock.....diiiiive....racka dacka dacka dacka........boom. There is a food dispeser outside. cheaper to go across the road to nicks store. Might as well, betty always smuggles in her crisps. Hiyaaaa love!
