The Lorelei Hotel

The Lorelei is a small hotel with a bar in the front, the bar is quite small with seating for 20 to 30 people in each section, of which there are two, separated by a fireplace (which i haven't seen lit).

You walk in through the door, past a curious flowerpot man and turn left into the bar, the actual bar itselfáis at the opposite end of the room, on the right hand side. They always have a good selection of beers and ciders, some from the barrel out the back. They often have some curious bottles and drinks such as mulled wine in the winter, They have a regular beer festival with the restaurant, which is out the back converted to hold the 10 or 20 barrels from which you can taste, or gulp whatever your preference.
They do a range of food, both in the restaurant and the bar.

My Opinion

I like the Lorelei, because of the beer mainly, a jug of Bass straight from the barrel and I am sold, but the staff are friendly and when it isn't to busy there is a nice atmosphere.

The guest ales are great and change weekly or less sometimes.

The bar itself is nice, the seating isn't great but does the job.

There is nice well protected smoking area out the back as well.

The menu isn't to big but the portions are huge, the food is really very good, I have tried several meals and have been disappointed with none.

I would say it is well worth stopping for a pint of good beer if you are in Porthcawl, a really friendly local.

This is a fine pub, a real local. The atmosphere friendly and beer selection is brilliant with a variety of guest beers that change frequently. I have never eaten here but reports are that it is good. The local poems and pints group meet here in the back room on the third Tuesday of every month, apart from December, to read poems by established poets as well as their own self-penned writing. All are welcome and admission is free.

Haven't visited here since 2008.There was always a good selection of ales, the staff being as enthusiastic about the ever changing brands, as the customers. The jug option offered exceptional value. I enjoyed the steak meals, good quality, excellent value. I must get back there sometime.

The Lorelei is the best 'local' in Porthcawl. Bar food is excellent (no restaurant now). It is famous for its selection of fine ales. You can be sure of a warm welcome from Andy, Sue and staff.
