The Plough and Harrow

The Plough and Harrow, a pub with a reputation. Mainly due to the previous landlord who was known for knowing how to enjoy himself and the music festivals, not to mention the beer.

The pub itself is a seriously old building with a low roof and open fires in both bars, the one in the main bar, on the right, seems to be constantly lit. The left hand room is only really used in the evenings and to get to the ladies, the gents being outside.

The main room has a warm and homely atmosphere with a tiny bar and the best selection of ales in the area. The menu is chalked up on the beam across the ceiling and is regularly changed.

It gets packed at times and can be hectic, in the summer the large garden with plenty of seats and a regular barbecue mean that it is not too crowded when it is hot, but in winter it can get very busy inside.

My Opinion

I used to love the Plough and although I still enjoy visiting people seem to rave on about it a little bit more than they should I think, saying that the fire is superb and the beer perfect. The atmosphere is great but having been there several times during the week I find the locals to be loud, foulmouthed and slightly retarded, probably due to all that farmyard inbreeding you get in the area.

Other times I have had some of the best nights.

The food is good but sometimes it is a little limited although when you get a meal they are excellent, with plenty of it at a damn good price.

If you like your beer then there is more choice here than anywhere and the Bass always quenches my thirst.
